This is certainly my favorite holiday song, and it’s very dear to my heart. If you never heard it before I suggest you add it into your rotation of Christmas carols! There’s a lot of history behind it too, as the songwriter Teddy Vann had to sue John Waters for including it on his ” A John Waters Christmas Album” when he specifically told him he wouldn’t allow it.
In the claim, filed in New York’s Brooklyn Federal Court, Vann says the Hairspray director caused further damage when he ridiculed the song in interviews, calling it “crackpot carol” and a “Christmas lunatic song”.
R.I.P. to Teddy Vann, who passed away last week. I appreciate all the support and words of wisdom throughout the years and I love the Vann family as if they were my own, and I consider Chinyere to be my little sister :)
