D-Block and the Invasion Man team up for their upcoming Green Ghost project which hits stores Feb 2^nd.  It’s refreshing to see artists and producers say “fuck it let’s make a record.”  Come up with an idea or concept, record it and bang! –  put it out.  It’s a sense of freedom available today in the new music business.  Let’s face it, hip-hop isn’t rocket science and we’re not using 64 piece string orchestras when we record so with the technology that’s avail making an album is more accessible and affordable to everyone.   So make like nike and just do it.  

CYPRESS HILL “IT AIN’T NOTHIN”

Nothing quite like B-Real’s voice on a track.  They guy is so classic and shows no signs of losing a step whatsoever on the mic.  Some hard shit from the Hill that will get the neck snappin!  B-Real is top 3 three on my Slept On MC’s list for sure.  Flow, style, lyrics and complete originality. 

YOUNG MAYLAY “MIC IT”

People keep asking when is the West Coast going to make a comeback.  Between up and comers like Nipsey Hustle, Jay Rock you can now add Maylay to the mix.  I got put up on this through the ole homey DJ Premier. He got the song from WC & The MMAAD Circle’s  Dj Crazy Toones who found Maylay and did the beat.  Grimey West coast funk with kool ass scratches and stuff in the chorus for us old heads.  Keep your eyes and ears on Maylay…

BUN B & GLC “HAPPINESS BEFORE RICHES”

This is that slick drop-top funk that you always can groove to.  Produced by the Weathermen this song is featured on the upcoming Closed Session Vol 1 project from Rubyhornet & DJ RTC that is def worth a listen.

DAVID BANNER & 9^TH WONDER “SLOW DOWN”

This is a similar situation to the Stylez Green Lantern collabo.  Two established guys decide to say fuck the lawyers, the paperwork and protocol and just rock out and make a project together.  The first offering from the Death Of A Popstar album is vintage 9^th Wonder  flavor with his signature soulful groove and footstomping drums while Banner cuts loose with the verses.  I am looking forward to how the rest of this project is going to sound…
