Verse Simmonds was raised in St. Thomas and eventually relocated to Atlanta. That’s where the singer/songwriter met Akon (through his mutual friends Rock City) and signed to Kon’s Konvict label. Verse has produced tracks for Rihanna (“Man Down”) and landed two songs on Jay-Z & Kanye West’s Watch The Throne. He’s working on Rihanna’s new album and has a new single with Kelly Rowland called “Boo Thang.” He said his debut album will be out next year.

Another strong offering from the man reppin the nation’s capitol city. The uptempo Cool & Dre produced track provides plenty of melody and stomp while Wale goes about his business on the verses with a catchy hook to boot.

FRENCH MONTANA “MARRIED TO THE STREET” FT. AKON

Reef’s take:

French stirred up enough of a buzz to catch the attention of Akon who put him on his Konvict Music team. Now it’s time to show and prove. The track bangs, Akon’s hook is good and French gets it in as well but doesn’t necessarily re-invent the wheel in terms of lyrical content

SNOOP DOGG “THAT’S THE HOMIE”

Reef’s take:

Snoop has been getting his music leak on quite a bit lately but the man is on a mission and armed with a new deal with Capitol Records so get ready. I know I mentioned this previously but it’s really kind of amazing how Snoop remains relevant through the years. You’ve got to tip your cap to the man for his star-power and the ability to change with the times.
