“It is a full circle type of thing,” Kim says about rejoining The Source. “And I think for me and where I was at in my career, it was good to come back. I always felt like there was a lot of stuff I didn’t get to finish because of the way things ended. And I been talking to Londell [McMillan], who owns the magazine now, about how we can move it forward. In the past couple years, I think the brand, it’s been there and it’s survived, but there have been a little bit of bumps in the roads. I wanted to see it prosper. I’ve always believed in The Source brand, as many people in hip hop have.”

After her stint at The Source, she worked for BET.com and GlobalGrind.com. She discusses the presence of blogs and websites saying: “I don’t think people are doing it well. It’s not to knock the blogs. I love that they are very informative and entertaining and I love being a part of that. I look at them everyday but I think with magazine jounalism, we have to take it a step further. We have to do a lot of things you can’t really do online.”

She talks about the legendary 5 mic rating in The Source saying: “The mic ratings are very important so one of the things I want to restore is the credibility of the mic ratings system.” She stands by her claim  that Lil Kim didn’t receive 5 mics and that it was indeed a 4 1/2 mic rating. She discusses blowing money fast early in the game, dealing with men in the industry, and Eminem.

After taking some time off to record his new album, B.o.B released his new E.P.I.C. (Every Play Is Crucial). The mixtape-album features production from Jim Jonsin, Dr. Luke, Lil C, Mike Caren, among others. Bob’s sophomore album Strange Clouds is due out in March.

The Source’s owner Londell McMillan and editor/writer Kazeem Famuyide sat down with The Breakfast Club to discuss the magazine’s Power 30 issue.

Londell discusses his rise at The Source saying, “After Black Enterprise and those guys came in and put out Dave [Mays] and Ray [Benzino], and then I threw them in bankruptcy and took a piece of the company. I was a minority owner, and now we’re majority owners. We’re trying to bring it back to the people and give them what they love and what they need and cut out all of what they had problems with.”

They talk about adding the Power 30 Digital this year to recognize the best hip-hop websites and blogs. Last year, Angela Yee and Charlamagne Tha God were on the Power 30 Radio list. Londell jokes, “You know Envy, I was pushing hard [for you] last year but they was like ‘No, no Benzino.’ I can’t come and make decisions.” Kaz talks about the qualifications to make the list.

The Breakfast Club is ranked number three on this year’s Power 30 Radio DJ’s list. Kaz points out that TBC is the number one morning show on the list. “The momentum was coming,” Londell says. “See if it was a full year, we might have different conversation.” Charlamagne declares,“We should have been number 1!” Londell responds, “I tell you, there were people in the building pushing number one. There was some vaseline fights about that.”

Charlamagne says, “We definitely should have been number one because we kind’ve shut this number one guy down. This guy that’s number one we kind’ve shut him down this year.” Charlamagne acknowledges that Funkmaster Flex has influenced the culture and explains where their battle started from. Londell asks if he they thought the battle with Flex Hogan helped take them to the next level or if it was their consistency.

“I think it was consistent work,” says DJ Envy. “I think with this industry, people know that when they come up here they’re not going to get a easy interview. They’re going to get the questions that are real, and we don’t hold our tongue. We support each other. If Charlamagne swing, I swing. And if Angela Yee swing, I swing. We all support each other. This is a real crew, we’re always out together, this ain’t just for tv, we’re really out with each other, we really support each other, and I think our grind shows.”

Angela adds, “Guests or no guests, I think we still have a great show every single morning. It doesn’t rely on, ‘Oh can we get this person to come up to the show?’ It’s more like we have enough content, enough personalities ourselves that we don’t have to rely on outside things.” Angela explains their different roles on the show.

Charlamagne says he’s not mad at being number three on the list and uses the analogy: “When it comes to rappers, I always say that I like the rappers who put out great material and they get better with time. You can come in red hot like a 50 Cent and then decline. Or you can come in like a Jay-Z with ‘Reasonable Doubt’ and grow as you get older.”

Jay-Z claimed the top ranking the past two years on the Power 30 list. However, this year the honor went to Lyor Cohen for his involvement in the deal that sold Warner Music Group for 3.3 billion dollars. Londell talks about Lyor starting out as a road manager for Run DMC to eventually becoming CEO and later selling a company for billions.

Kaz discusses getting feedback from people who didn’t make the list or were unhappy with their ranking. Londell talks about bringing integrity back to The Source’s brand, Eminem still hating the brand, and there being a discussion whether or not to include Angela on last year’s list because she worked at his Shade 45 station.

Lip Service back with Machine Gun Kelly on The Breakfast Club. MGK talks about his love for whores (“The more whores the better”), losing his virginity, favorite porn stars and sites, types of porn, anal sex, filming himself having sex, strategy of talking down his penis size, arctic popsicles, labor day weekend in Atlanta, and homosexuality in hip hop.

Kelly said he signed with Diddy, “just because everybody told me not to go with Diddy. He also agreed not to touch my project, and he really has not touched my project.” He discusses the awkward conversations with Diddy and talks about Puff sceaming on him once. “He pulled the Making The Band move on me one time. He screamed on me, it was hilarious.” He said he’s not really into Cassie despite everybody else being “obsessed” with her looks.

He talks about destroying a hotel room in Las Vegas and asking Diddy to pay for it. (“We’re like the original wildboys of hip hop since Wu-Tang“) He discusses the comparisons to other white rappers saying, “I’m in a whole different lane. I hate the comparisons. I don’t think I sound like any of them, I don’t think I act like any of them. I think some of the actings they do is a lot like my stuff. I totally respect Mac Miller, he owes me like 50 chicken wings. Him and his boy came to my house and ate all my chicken wings.”

He thinks Yelawolf’s verse at the BET Hip Hop Awards cypher was about him. He also discusses his love for Eminem, Jay Electronica dissing him on twitter, his “Don’t Quit Your Day Job” appearance in ‘08, Cleveland support, Lebron James leaving the Cavaliers, and the industry not wanting him to win. MGK is a wild boy.

Royce Da 5′9″ checked in with The Breakfast Club to discuss his now-infamous “Hi Rihanna” line during the Shady cypher at the BET Hip Hop Awards. “I just wanted to say hi,” Royce says referring to Rihanna. He clarifies the rumors that he’s allegedly smashing Rihanna by saying, “Absolutely did not happen. I have all the respect in the world for Rihanna. I just wanted to get her attention a little bit.” He said, “I think the reason why the whole “Hi Rihanna” thing is so popular is because of how many people like her.”

Royce said they didn’t rehearse the cyphers together. “We like the element of surprise,” he said. “I didn’t know what anybody was going to say. I was actually worried that we might use the same name or something like that. Because when your rhyming for pop culture, you throw popular names around.”

He discusses his rapping style saying, “I pride myself on finding a balance in my style. Sometimes I go complex. Sometimes I might make it a little simple and go, “hi Rihanna.’ It’s just about having that balance.” They talk about the difference between rappers and mc’s.

He said the Slaughterhouse album is about 75% done and the first single should be out by the end of the year. Charlamagne Tha God asked if there were going to be any features on the album. “Thats a good question,” Royce said. “Since theres 4 of us, theres a lot of people we respect and admire. I personally would like to work with any of the monsters.. Jay-Z, [Lil] Wayne. Even the new school dudes, J. Cole, Big Krit, Kendrick Lamar.”

Angela Yee asked how people are treating him in Detroit. “Pretty good, surprisingly,” Royce says. “Detroit is not the type of city that embraces, its a very competitive market. I came out very brash, cocky, calling my self the king of detroit which I should’t have did. I don’t think people should deem themselves as anything. I’m not the king of anything, I just want to rap. And thats my mind frame now at 34. But at 20, you get a million dollar deal, your album doesn’t come out. Then you get another million dollar deal, it does something to you mentally. A lot of things have happened to me to humble me. They embrace me now because of the humbleness.”

Mac Miller sat down with The Breakfast Club to discuss his breakthrough year and plans for his debut album, Blue Slide Park. He talks about appearing on VH1’s Single Ladies, saying some people thought he was just a character on the show and didn’t know he was a real rapper. When DJ Envy asked him why he hasn’t signed a deal with a major label, Mac replied, “I’m waiting for it to slow down. Things are just building so crazy, I don’t even know whats going on. Things are just crazy on an independent level, where I just want to see how far we can take it.”

He said he’s waiting to get a house until after he releases his album, but he’s still at home for now. Charlamagne Tha God asked Miller if he has sex in his moms house. “She’s been letting me have sex in the house since I was like 14, 15,” he says. “She’s been cool about it. I’d have girls over and she would come up and shut the door for me.”

Angela Yee asked Mac about the first time he had sex. He said it was with his homies ex-girl explaining, “Basically what happened. I didn’t really know it was happening. She hit me up, and was like, ‘Do you want to hang out?’ and I’m young and naive like, ‘She wants to hang out? Cool, cool.’ And I told her I was a virgin… I was 14, I didn’t know how those things work.” Mac said, “She loved it. I just remember we were watching ‘Nacho Libre,’ and she climbs on top of me and she’s like ‘Do you want to do this?’ and I was all like, ‘Yeah, definitely.’ And then it went down.”

Charlamagne asked about his relationship with Wiz Khalifa. “We’re both signed to Rostrum,” Miller says. “But I’m not signed to him. I do my own thing, and he does his. Its more just being homies. Theres no business aspect of it. I want to put myself in a place where when we make songs, I’m bringing my fanbase to the table, and he’s bringing his, and we have like our own separate thing going on.”

He talks about getting the cosign from Donald Trump. “People were all mad about him calling me the new Eminem,” he says. “I was like, ‘How are you taking this mans word so seriously? Like its Donald Trump, and who really cares?” He went on to discuss the Em comparisons saying, “I don’t really care what the whole comparison thing is. Because I expected that. When I stared rapping, people were like, ‘Oh so what? Your going to be the next Eminem?’ No, I’m just going to be Me.”

Angela asked Mac if he ever thought he would make it this far. “I always thought I could be real ill, and I thought I could get as good as possible,” he says. “The further and further you get, the more reachable things seem. Thats one thing I think my mom was supportive of it. My work ethic is crazy. As goofy as I am and lighthearted, when it comes to taking care of my stuff, I’m 100% serious. I’m in the lab 24/7 working, no sleep.”

Miller talks about his movement saying, “We don’t know if something is just cool right now, and we found a quick bubbling thing. Or if we’re on the path to making history. As an independent artist, we’re doing things alot of people aren’t doing as major artists’. People are kind’ve wondering why? There has to be a secret major behind everything. It’s really just us thinking, being creative, and working hard. We don’t spend a lot of money on our videos, everything’s pretty simple.”

Angela asked him about doing a reality show. Mac said, “I want to put myself to a point in music where I can do all that so easily. It’s not time for me to have a reality show. Because I don’t want people to be like, ‘Mac Miller from the reality show?’ Because I feel like people just jump to do those things.” He continued by saying, “I want be remembered for what I’ve done. Not be remembered for trying to get something poppin’ by doing this, or by doing that. I want to be remembered for having dope music period.”

Angela asked how people act towards him in his hometown. “Pittsburgh’s the last city to really show crazy amounts of love,” he said. “In your hometown, its like everyone knows you. There like ‘Oh Malcolm. He ain’t real, he ain’t actually popping, he ain’t actually big.’ And then they see things really, and then they show love. But they support, and its definitely good. We’re definitely putting on for the city right now, and opening up for other cats in the city to step out.”

He talks about releasing his debut album Blue Slide Park in the fall by saying, “Were going to drop it in a really cool, different way than anybody’s ever done before.”

Royce Da 5′9″ stopped by The Breakfast Club to discuss his new album, Success Is Certain. He talks about releasing the album right after the Bad Meets Evil project. “It was my last obligation contractually as an independent solo artist,” he says. “So I didn’t want to go into next year owing somebody that album. I just felt like it needed to be out now.” He said he would prefer not to release another album independently, and discusses lyricists not making as much money off independent albums.

Angela Yee asked him about Death Is Certain being a dark album. “It was a dark period in my life,” Royce said. “I had a lot of beef. Things wasn’t going to good as far as my career. I was angry, I just wanted to kill everybody.” Nowadays, he’s more optimistic: “I don’t have nothing against anybody, I don’t hate anybody, [I don't have] problems with anybody. Everything is going good.”

He discusses his rekindled friendship with Eminem saying it’s stronger now because their smarter and more mature. “Theres not a lot people around on the outside that can stir up things between us,” he says. DJ Envy told him about Big Sean wanting to record with Eminem. “We talk about him a lot,” Royce said. “Em is very aware of Big Sean. It’s definitely not out of the question that they will work together at some point.”

Royce says the Slaughterhouse album is “about 70%” completed. “We a lot closer to being done than people think,” he says. “We’ve been working, we just haven’t been real vocal about it.” He names the producers they’ve worked with and said they’ll definitely be a single out by the end of the year.

Charlamagne Tha God asked him if his financial situation has changed recently. “Yeah, its changed,” Royce says. “It’s changed because of the whole turn of events. Everything is real overwhelming, so I’m just really learning how to re-adapt to being in that tax bracket.” He said he hasn’t purchased anything big. “You got to remember, I got Em in my ear everyday like, “don’t buy anything, save your money. Just look at it.”" He said he wants to retire his father, but doesn’t want to do it prematurely.
